Syria - Nov 13

In a worrisome development, ISIS and Al-Qaeda reached an agreement to work together against the Assad Regime in Syria. The groups (ISIS and al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria, the Nusra Front) had fought each other bitterly for more than a year. If the cooperation agreement holds, rebels backed by Washington would face far stronger opposition. However, it is important to note that the agreements were mainly comprised of informal local truces devoted to taking areas in northern Syria held by the Kurds as opposed to a real pact unifying the competing rivals.
