Iraq's Shiite militias are becoming increasingly brutal in their fight against ISIS Sunni extremists who have slaughtered Shiites. The Shiite militias have effectively replaced the Iraqi army, which crumbled in June when militants overran Mosul. Their vigilantism, however, poses a challenge for the Shiite-led government in Baghdad because of international rebuke and worries that the militias are unable to be controlled, and there are concerns over a connection with Lebanon and Iran's Hezbollah.
