Hong Kong - Feb 18

The government of Hong Kong circulated an instruction to its civil servants on using the correct terminologies such as “Hong Kong- mainland relations” instead of “Hong Kong - China relations.” This rare move is seen as the Chinese central government’s response to Hong Kongers’ recent attempt to preserve autonomy of Hong Kong. Civil servants and journalists see this terminology standardization as the first step towards strengthening Chinese mainland’s authority and sovereignty over Hong Kong.
