Guinea - Oct 23

Scientists are set to begin testing in Guinea next month to determine whether treatment with antibodies in the blood of Ebola survivors can help fight off the virus. Last month, the WHO urged the use of blood-derived products as a possible cure, and similar initiatives were taken in a 1995 Ebola outbreak in Kikwit, DRC when seven out of eight patients who received blood survived. It is unclear as to whether the method will prove effective since the number of patients who received the treatment was so limited in 1995, however, if effective, this treatment could provide pharmaceutical companies with more time and insight into finding a cure and developing a vaccine.
