Ecuador - Nov 18

This week, a special committee of Ecuador's National Assembly began work on setting the parameters of the forthcoming debate over the elimination of term limits. Several weeks ago, the country's Constitutional Court decided that this issue, which would involve amending the Constitution, is a matter for the Assembly as opposed to one for a plebescite. Supporters of the change point to people's right to select whomever they want as their representatives. Opponents worry about abuses of power. President Correa has not yet announced whether or not he would run should term limits be eliminated. Source: El Universal
